Same-day handovers: one dog out, the next one in

Dog boarding same-day handovers: one dog leaves in the morning and the next one arrives in the afternoon, with no overlapping bookings

The problem with blocked days

On many booking platforms, the day a dog goes home is marked as booked for the whole day. That stops two bookings overlapping, but it also means nobody can book that day, even if the dog is leaving in the morning.

To get round it, many sitters reopen the booked day by hand so another dog can be booked in, and then sort out the timings themselves: “I have a dog leaving that day, but not until 3pm.”

The DoggyDesk splits every day in two

Each day on your boarding calendar has two halves: before 2pm and after 2pm. They show as AM and PM in the calendar. Each half can be booked on its own.

  • When a dog owner books, they choose Before 2pm or After 2pm for the drop-off day and for the pick-up day. It gives you a first idea of when to expect them, and you agree the exact time together.
  • Once a half is taken, nobody else can book it. The owner sees it as unavailable, for example “Before 2pm unavailable — sitter is busy that morning”.
  • The other half stays open. On the owner’s calendar, a day with one half free shows as a half day, so it can still be booked.

Questions and answers

Can one dog leave and another arrive on the same day?

Yes. If the first dog is picked up before 2pm and the next is dropped off after 2pm, both bookings fit on the same day.

Can the dog owner choose an exact time?

They choose before 2pm or after 2pm when they book. You agree the exact time with them.

Do I need to reopen a booked day myself?

No. The free half of the day stays open on its own, so it can still be booked.
